This section is about my mother Edna Marie Naylor Butterfield. Mother was a wonderful
mother in many ways. She was a very strong person in being responsible for her children and
making sure that they ate properly, got the sleep they need and would not take any bickering
among her children. I remember her as a strict task master in working in the garden, the home and supporting us in things that would create strong characters, such as paper route, working for
someone else and looked out for us to get a honest pay for work that we did for someone else.
She cared for us and cared that we were treated equal in our association with others and would
talk to us about being honest in our work and dealings with others.
I was 14 years old when mother passed away, hyrum was 13 and Lola was very young.
I remember our family being called to the hospital and dad taking us to be with mom. The ,ie Dr
Daughters had mom sitting up in bed and very coherent and wanting to talk to us indivitually.
As I entered the room she had me sit on the bed and began talking to me. She told me that she
was not going to be with us much longer and that Heavenly Father was calling her home.
She told me that she wanted me to be a good boy and to listen to dad and help all I could in the
family. She said that we all would be missed and yes we to will miss her and we knew that because we did love her very much. She said other things also to me and we hugged and said goodby. She talked to Hyrum and Lola also as as dad took us home we were not home long and dad received a phone call to rush back to the hospital. I knew and saw the fear in my dads face and knew that our mother was not doing very well at all and that this could be her last day.
I was prompted to wonder through the field from our back yard and near the canal way back through the field I knelt in a large irragation ditch and there poured my heart to heavenly father and it became very dark around me and as I prayed I ask Heavenly Father why he would do such a thing as take our mother away from us.. AS time went by I received no answer and was
very lonely and thought I had been deserted. I climbed out of the ditch and began walking toward my aunt Lois house and as I was walking it was lit up around me , very light day and a
voice came to me and said: It will be all right !! and I was calm and comforted and began to cry
and continues to walk to my aunts house .. As I approached the home and knoked on the door
she let me in and sat me down and told me that she had just been told that our mother has died..
I had already known it just minutes before. She was very sorry and tried to comfort me. But
I had an answer to my prayer that we as a family would be alright and would continue on and
prepare our selves for our future. I continued to go to school and worked after school to help maintain my self as did Hyrum and Lola..
There are many other things I can tell you about our mother your grandmother. She was a very self reliant lady and was a very good home maker and provider for us as her children.
I will write more later

Dad was a wonderful man and had many hardships in his life. He was elected to go herd his
fathers sheep at a very young age, alone and facing bear and other preditors in which he had
some scary stories to tell. At nineteen was called on a mission to the black hills of South Dakota
and walked many miles between ranch homes and slept in the barn on the haystack. He and his
companion one time built a raft and rafted across the Mighty Missouri river only to end up 5 miles down stream. once had a 40 acre home and farm in south jordan, a sheep herd and ranch. He lost all
this either to his first wife and then to the depression in 1929. He began all over with a 2nd wife and had kids, ie more kids to raise and even losing two sons at 4 years and a year old in between Edna and I and Bob.. He was too old when we were teenagers to go and camp etc, because he was camped out. His motto was like his fathers early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy
wealthy wise. He spent about the last 10 yrs of his life alone since mother had passed away.

My fore fathers at least just a part of them is shown to the right.
We have a wonderful history and lineage. My parents and grandparent where very
proud people and perservered many trials in there life. I am grateful for them and
sacrifices they have made for there generations. I am proud of my lineage and for
the teaching that was given to me a a very early age and losing my mother at a very
early age of 14 and then my father at age 77. We have a full history and geneology of
our fore fathers and thanks to thomas Butterfield attending the temple with his wives
produced much completed geneology.

Josiah Butterfield is recorded in the 124 Section verse 138 of the D & C. He was the
uncle of Thomas Butterfield Sr. He was set apart as president of the first quorum of seventy.
Josiah later became excomunicated in 1844. His vacancy was filled by Jedediah M Grant.
He later was rebaptized .
by JS. After the movement west in which he did not come west, but later drove his herd
of stock west and stopped in Herriman to visit his cousins Thomas and reaffirmed his
testimony of the restored gospel. He then moved on to Monterey county California and there
died in the year 1871.

Great grandfather thomas Sr. and his two wives named Mary Jane Parker
and Mary Farmer. Mary Jane Parker and Thomas had 10 children this was
his 1st wife.
Mary Farmer and thomas Sr had I think 8 or 9 children.
Thomas served 3 missions and the first was in Salmon Idaho and when
he returned he married his 2nd wife Mary Farmer with Mary Jane's consent.
Thomas Sr learned the gospel from Josiah Butterfield his uncle and joined the
church in Kirtland and later moved to Nahvoo and established a farm outside
of Nahvoo, but later came west and moved by covered wagon with John Taylor
company and settled in West Jordan and discovered the Oquirr mountains and
Brigham sent him to that area and he and Henry Herriman, Stockings and Petty
extablished the land and Brigham sent 20 other families to join them and extablished
a fort against the indians.
